Take that Bobby Flay!

cotija cheese on blue plate

I decided to make some grilled corn on the cobb with garlic butter, fresh lime and cotija cheese. It all looked so easy on Food Network. First I had to find out what in the blue blazes “cotija” cheese is. Thanks to Wikipedia, I found out it’s a mexican cheese made of cows milk with a pungent aroma much like parmesan. You had me at pungent. I made my grocery list, grabbed my purse and headed out to the local mexican supermarket. Yes, you heard me right. I’ve been let down before by my usual grocery store. They never seem to have the exotic ingredients I need for new recipes so I decided to try the mexican one on the south side of town. As I pulled up to the store I almost had second thoughts due to the overwhelmingly Spanish signs lining the windows. Thanks to my semester of Spanish in high school bilingualness, I quickly acclimated to the advertising and entered the store. It was clean and well lit and I easily found the cheese at the back near the meat counter. The cotija cheese was a bargain at $4.22 lb. At the check-out stand I wondered if I needed to exchange my currency, but the friendly employee readily accepted my cash. Within minutes, I was back to my casa and loving my cheese.

My favorite cheese is chihuahua cheese. I’m not sure what it’s made from. Chihuahua’s probably.

Look at you! A beautiful new blog. Can you stand it?!
